BJORK: BIOPHILIA
In the cover line of the this month’s Dazed & Confused magazine cover featuring Bjork, in which she guest edited as well, has ‘WITH THE MOST MIND-EXPANDING SCIENTISTS, ARTISTS AND TECH GEEKS IN THE WORLD’. Why is Bjork so interested in science and techonology? Here’s why.
A while ago in March, Bjork described her new music project as consisting of ‘music, apps, internet, installations and live shows’. 3 months later, the big secret was revealed at Manchester’s Museum of Science and Industry, In the exhibition sat the early prototype of the ipad app Biophilia, her most ambitious and exiting work to date. To all the other musician, sorry, the title of the Most Ambitious Musician title is taken!
This multimedia project Biophilia ( means love of living things) encompasses a traditional album, an ipad suite, a documentary, a series of live shows including a 3 year educational music tour, designed to teach children about nature, music and technology. Wow! The app will include around 10 separate apps, all housed within one ‘mother’ app. Each of the small apps will allow people to explore and interact with the song’s themes or even make a completely new version! According to Bjork there are actually 1,000,000,000 ways to experience the album/app, I’m speechless…
Bjork not only made music more accessible, but more educational! Biophilia celebrates how sound works in nature, explore the possibility of mixing music with the latest technology. It proves once again that Bjork is an artist who’s unafraid to step into the unknown.
